Deep Cuts: White Zombie- Warp Asylum

The other day I was watching an interview with 3/4 of White Zombie as they were talking about the 30th anniversary of the album, La Sexorcisto Devil Music Vol 1. It’s quite a good interview with really good stories about the making of the album and the early years of the band before their eventual breakup. The moment the interview was over, I put on La Sexorcisto and it took me back to when I first heard it when I was a kid. The songs are still kick ass, the production on it is crisp and punchy and the album still holds up great! Of course everyone knows the song “Thunder Kiss 65” but the real gems on this album are the deep cuts. My favorite of those deep cuts happens to be the last song on the album “Warp Asylum.” I love this song. It’s got all the right groove and is the perfect ending to this great album! Now how about a damn White Zombie Reunion Already!!!

Memorable TV Performances: White Zombie on David Letterman 1995

See White Zombie "Blow the Roof Off" 'Letterman' With "More Human" in 1995 | Revolver

Travel back to 1995 with me and revisit the time White Zombie was on the Late Show with David Letterman. While out promoting their album, Astro-Creep 2000, White Zombie payed a visit to the Letterman show and performed “More Human Than Human.” They were joined by Paul Schaffer as well who provided the keyboard parts. It’s a very fun performance and it looks like the band was enjoying it, especially David Letterman at the end. What’s even cooler is that, White Zombie returned to the Letterman show a few months later and performed again. This time they chose “Super Charger Heaven.” I still believe that if White Zombie were to reunite, they could put out one hell of a good album.

Soundtrack Only Songs: White Zombie Feed The Gods in Airheads

The movie Airheads is quite a fun one to go back and watch. It’s still ridiculous and silly but, there is something so good about it. Perhaps it’s because of Adam Sandler and Steve Buscemi, or Chris Farley, or even the soundtrack (which is absolutely worth checking out if you haven’t). I still remember watching the movie years back and seeing White Zombie performing “Feed The Gods” and thinking, how cool they were live. I still wish I had been able to see them live. Anyways, this song I’ve always thought was a badass White Zombie song.

Soundtrack Only Songs: White Zombie- Ratfinks, Suicide Tanks and Cannibal Girls from Beavis & Butthead Do America

Back in 1996, one of the biggest movies of the year was Beavis and Butthead Do America. I still remember seeing that movie countless times with my childhood best friend. It was and still is one hell of a funny movie. One of the coolest parts of the movie was the soundtrack. In particular the song that White Zombie contributed to it entitled “Ratfinks, Suicide Tanks and Cannibal Girls.” Even the scene in which it’s featured is superb and super trippy. This White Zombie song was also the last thing the band would release before they broke up.

I’m still hoping that one day White Zombie will get back together for at least one show. But at least there is still the music. One of my favorite Kiss songs “God Of Thunder was covered by White Zombie way back when. It’s definitely an interesting cover. Enjoy it!

Bands That Should Come Back: White Zombie

White_Zombie-Logo

This feature is so much fun to do. It allows me to think that maybe if I put this out in the ether of the internet, some of these bands might get back together (with the help of all of the others that want it too). Now I know this one is total wishful thinking, especially since Rob Zombie said that he won’t do it, but how awesome would it be if White Zombie got back together. They were such a fun band. There was something unique and fun about them. They had a really cool groove to the music. Guitarist J Yuenger really had a knack for cool riffs and licks that seemed simple but were intricate in the timing. I always wondered why he wasn’t regarded for his playing. Their two major label releases La Sexorcisto and Astro Creep 2000 were outstanding albums. And both were different in good way. La Sexorcisto had a more metal vibe to it while Astro Creep got more electronic and had tinges of industrial to go along with the groove metal riffs. Take a stroll and get back into White Zombie!

Classic Sountracks: The Crow-City Of Angels

The_Crow_-_City_of_Angels_Original_Motion_Pictures_Soundtrack
The 1990’s were truly a great time for music. One of the best things about that time were the soundtracks that came out. Even if the movie wasn’t that good, most of the time the soundtrack was great. As is the case with the terrible sequel to the masterpiece that is The Crow. The soundtrack far surpassed the film. The inclusion of songs from Hole, White Zombie, Bush, Deftones and Filter all made this worth while. The Hole song was a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust Woman.” This could actually be the best song that Hole ever put out. White Zombie’s version of KC and the Sunshine Band’s “I’m Your Boogie Man,” was a fun song that had a great video to accompany it. Bush’s contribution was a really solemn cover of Joy Division’s “In A Lonely Place.” They really did a great arrangement with that song. Deftones song “Teething” is classic Deftones. They also appear in the film. Filter’s song “Jurrasitol” is another classic Filter song, that has become a fan favorite and a must play at live shows. Other bands and artists that appear on the soundtrack are Korn, PJ Harvey, Iggy Pop, Toadies and a few others. Sadly the movie doesn’t hold a candle to what the first movie was, but the soundtrack makes up for that. Even though the soundtrack to the first film is way better than this one!
