I really love this segment. Finding these horrible covers provide some much needed humor, especially in the world today. Recently my friend Kevin showed me this cover knowing full well that I’m a HUGE Nine Inch Nails fan. This is beyond horrible and full of laughs. I’d love to know if these bands do this as a humorous or serious things. I present you one of THE WORST COVERS I have ever heard.
Fit For An Autopsy- The Perfect Drug:
Here is the original to get that horrible version out of your ears and memory (and also one of my Top 5 favorite Nine Inch Nails songs!)
Nine Inch Nails- The Perfect Drug (Behind The Scenes/Making Of Video:
I can’t believe that it’s been almost twenty years since I first heard Nine Inch Nails song “The Perfect Drug.” Not only that but it’s also been almost twenty years since the release of David Lynch’s film Lost Highway, in which “The Perfect Drug” appeared on. There is an intriguing story that explains how Trent Reznor and David Lynch made this happen. Trent had been after David Lynch to direct a video for Nine Inch Nails, but it never seemed to work out. Not long after the success with his work on the Natural Born Killers soundtrack, Trent got word that Lynch was interested in having him do the soundtrack for Lost Highway. And the rest is history. On a fun side note, Trent finally got David Lynch to direct a video for Nine Inch Nails a couple years back. The song “Came Back Haunted” off the album Hesitation Marks had its video directed by David Lynch.
There are lists devoted to ranking a bands best albums and songs, and not enough that rank the bands videos. So I thought why not do a ranking of a bands videos. Since Nine Inch Nails is my favorite band, here is the ranking of 10 of their best videos.
The first video/song is The Perfect Drug. Never released on a studio album it was however released on the soundtrack for the film Lost Highway and as a single. The video is one of the best Nine Inch Nails videos ever and the song is wonderful. Trent has never played the song live. There is something haunting and beautiful about the words and how Mark Romanek used them to create such a vivid intricate story in the video.
Into The Void is the second pick in the 2 for Tuesday. Directed by Walter Stern and Jeff Richter, the clip gets literally beneath the surface of Trent Reznor and shows how imperfect he is. The song itself tells the listener that no matter what he does to bring himself back up it all slips away. Into The Void was featured on the masterpiece The Fragile (I will write about this wonderful album soon).
