Memorable TV Performances: 311 on Late Night with Conan O’Brien

This is a fun one for you all. Back in 1996 on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Omaha’s own 311, made their national television debut with a performance of their hit song “Down.” This was the year that 311 broke and everyone knew the song “Down.” It was and still is infectious. To this day, anytime I hear this song it takes me back and I can’t help but turn it up loud! 311’s self titled album or the “blue album” as some refer to it as, still holds up quite well to this day! If it were ever announced that the band would do a full play through of this album, I’d definitely go! In the meantime, enjoy this classic performance of 311’s “Down.”

Those 90’s Songs: 311- Down

Is This Still Good? : 311 — self-titled | by Elliot Imes | Medium

I woke up this morning with a song stuck in my head that I haven’t heard in a very long time. The song was “Down” by 311. I do find it to be a coincidence that this song pops in my head on March 11 (311 day). I remember when this song came out. I was in 7th grade and 311’s self titled album was popping. I heard this song on the radio and after school that day I had my parents take me to the record store to buy the CD. I jammed that album for a good part of 7th grade. I still think the riff for this song is badass. It’s also one of those perfect 90’s songs that instantly takes you back to when it came out.

Those 90’s Songs: 311- Beautiful Disaster

Back in 1997, 311, released Transistor, the follow up to their break through self titled album. There was one song on the album that has always been a favorite of mine.  The song is “Beautiful Disaster” and it rocks. The intro is beyond recognizable anytime you hear the first few notes and the vibe the song emits, has this flow to it that is perfectly 90’s but, still sounds fresh today. Interestingly, “Beautiful Disaster” was the third and final single released from the album.
