Head Like A Hole

Track Ones: Nine Inch Nails- Head Like A Hole

This one is too easy and since I’m still on a roll from my 19th NIN show, it’s only fitting. There is no denying the power of this song. There is a reason why it’s been a live staple since the beginning and why it pretty much closes the show. “Head Like A Hole” is an absolute triumph of a track one. Interestingly, “Down In It” was the first single from Pretty Hate Machine but, once “Head Like A Hole” was released and the video too, there was nothing that was going to stop Nine Inch Nails. This song is pure awesome. It’s song with 2 choruses and both are equally as punishing as the other! Live, this song goes to a whole other level especially with thousands of people singing along. Head Like A Hole is a perfect example of what a track one should be!

Collaborations: Nine Inch Nails with Peter Murphy of Bauhaus

Reptile" live 6.23.06. Trent Reznor, Peter Murphy, Atticus Ross ...

I woke up this morning in a very Nine Inch Nails kind of mood. While going through my routine when that happens (One day I’ll explain what it all entails), I remembered there was a really cool collaboration that occurred in 2006 between Nine Inch Nails and Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy. At the time, Bauhaus was opening for NIN on the second leg of the With Teeth tour. During this time, there were special radio broadcasts they did together. Here are a handful of these wonderful collaborations.

Cover Song: Miley Cyrus (Nine Inch Nails)- Head Like A Hole

So this is one of those odd, out of left field things. Miley Cyrus did a cover of  the classic Nine Inch Nails track “Head Like A Hole.” On the new season of Black Mirror, in the episode “Rachel, Jack And Ashley Too,” Miley performs the song. The chorus lyrics were changed from the original anthemic verse of “Head like a hole / Black as your soul / I’d rather die than give you control / Bow down before the one you serve,” Cyrus, who plays fictional pop star Ashley O in the episode, can be heard singing “Hey there, whoa-ho, I’m on a roll / Riding so high, achieving my goals / I’m so stoked on ambition and verve / I’m gonna get what I deserve.” Additionally, the Nine Inch Nails track “Right Where It Belongs” was also featured in the episode, which is available now on Netflix.

I will say, I actually like this. It’s not amazing by any means but, it’s not bad at all. A lot of people will hate on it but, at least it’s not as bad as Buckcherry’s cover of the song. Miley actually has a good voice. She’s got a good “ROCK” voice that I’d like to hear her use more.
