New Release: Eighteen Visions- 1996

Eighteen Visions are back!!! Today, they have premiered a new single of theirs by the name of “1996“. This one is chock full of the heavy you know and love about the band. Speaking on the song singer James Hart said “It was 1996. At the time, Huntington Beach had no shortage of white supremacists and we were always finding ourselves in a tangle with them. I was serving detention on a Saturday during the first couple of weeks of my senior year in high school. As I entered the detention room I took a shove from one of the nazis we had a beef with that carried over from the previous school year. The hours couldn’t pass soon enough and as the bell rang I was able to catch him outside where I took him to the ground. Once again, I had gotten the better of him and exposed him and his hateful ideas to those that witnessed the events. FUCK ALL THAT YOU BELIEVE & FUCK RACISM.” And then you listen to the song and it all comes together! If this is the direction of their new material, then it’s going to be one hell of a new album or EP they put out!

New Release: Eighteen Visions- Sink & The Wicked

Eighteen Visions are back yet again with a new EP Inferno, inspired by Italian poet Dante Alighieri‘s ‘The Divine Comedy‘. So far two songs from the EP have been released, “Sink” and “The Wicked.” Both of these tracks are badass and hit hard like 100 metal baseball bats to the head. The EP will be out on October 2nd. Looks like they really picked up where their very awesome 2017 album left off.

Guest Vocalist: Howard Jones- Light The Torch Ex Killswitch Engage

 

For many years now, Howard Jones has been a well respected vocalist in the heavy music world. From his time in Blood Has Been Shed to Killswitch Engage and now with Light The Torch (formerly known as Devil You Know), Howard’s voice and lyrics have resonated with countless amounts of people. Since Light The Torch is getting set to release their new album, Revival (out March 30), I thought it would be fun to put together a bunch of songs Howard has guested on over the years.

Album Review: Eighteen Visions- XVIII

Comeback albums aren’t easy to make. There are so many different ways it can go wrong yet, if it’s done right, then the payoff in the end is tremendous. 10 years ago following the misstep of their major label debut, Eighteen Visions called it quits. Everyone associated with the band went on to other bands and projects. For years fans had been wondering if they would ever see the Orange County hardcore band again. Every chance the press got to interview a former member, it seemed that it wasn’t in the cards. Now, I’m not sure what pushed them to get the ball rolling again, perhaps it was the passing of bass player Mick Morris a couple years back, or maybe it was even their desire to get back to what they did best. Either way, Eighteen Visions are back and with a vengeance.

Their first album in ten years, XVII, is 10 songs of pure unrelenting old school Eighteen Visions. This is the album they were meant to make. It harks back to their early days a la Until The Ink Runs Out and adds a dash of Vanity/Obsession. Singer James Hart sounds better than ever. Guitarist Keith Barney is still pumping out tasty riffs and dramatic breakdowns. And drummer Trevor Friedrich is pounding away on the drums with such fury.

From the moment the opening song “Crucified” hits, you know you’re in for quite the ride. As “The Disease, The Decline and Wasted Time” comes in, the album is already in full swing and it won’t let go. The song “Live Again” is a solemn tribute to the late Mick Morris, and it shows the real growth of each member in the band. Other stand out tracks from the album include “Oath,” “Laid To Waste In The Shit Of Man,” “Picture Perfect,” and the closing track “For This I Sacrifice.”

As a fan of the band for many years, this is the album I’ve been wanting them to make for years. It has the explosiveness of their very early days and it also has bits of melody sprinkled through some of the songs, to separate them from the rest of their peers. This isn’t just a comeback though, this is a reinvigorated band firing on all cylinders with something to prove to themselves. It shows in their dedication to make this album and go for it. On a side note, I have to say I’m really stoked on the fact that they made this album without crowdfunding. XVIII will go down as one of the band’s best albums. I can’t wait for them to tour this album.

 It’s been over a decade since Eighteen Visions have been a band. In that time, many people including myself, have been wondering if and when they would get back together. Well the answer to that question is a resounding yes, Eighteen Visions are back, and are they coming back with a vengeance. Their upcoming album will be out Friday, June 2nd. Based on the few tracks they’ve released thus far, the band finds themselves returning to their metalcore roots and bringing an unrelenting assault to the genre.
