Cover Comparison: Professional Murder Music VS The Smashing Pumpkins (The Cure)- A Night Like This

The other day I had a song stuck in my head and after about 10 minutes I remembered who the band was and I went and put it on. The band was Professional Murder Music, who you might remember from the early 2000’s and their inclusion on the End Of Days soundtrack with their song “Slow.” While listening to their album, I remembered their very great cover of The Cure’s “A Night Like This.” While listening to that I thought, I should listen to another cover of the song by The Smashing Pumpkins. The pumpkins version is sung by James Iha so it has a different vibe than you’d normally get as we are so used to Billy/William as the singer. So I spent some time with both and I have my favorite of the two. Which one do you prefer?

Cover Song Comparison: The Smashing Pumpkins vs Bush- Landslide

It’s really fun to listen to different cover songs and find the one that you really dig. Most of the time the original is the best version but, every now and then, a cover comes along and takes the song in a different direction. One song in particular is Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide.” Over the years many bands have covered it. One group that actually did a great version of it was the Dixie Chicks. Natalie Mains voice is the perfect compliment to Stevie Nicks. Then in the rock world bands like The Smashing Pumpkins and Bush have put out versions. Personally I really like The Smashing Pumpkins version. Billy Corgan brings a vulnerability to the song that was there in the original.

The Sex Pistols are one of my top 15 favorite bands ever. They were the band that got me into punk when I was 8 years old. I present to you two different covers of one of their quintessential songs “Anarchy In The U.K.” I find it fitting to do a cover comparison of this song considering what is going on in the U.K. at the moment. Who do you think did it best?

Cover Comparison: Disturbed, Sonata Arctica, Apocalyptica (Metallica)- Fade To Black

I was going through some CD’s the other day and came across a CD of covers I burned. On it there was Disturbed’s version of Metallica’s “Fade To Black.” This got me thinking that I should do a cover comparison of the different covers of “Fade To Black.” So here you have three versions. Disturbed’s, Sonata Arctica’s, and Apocalyptica. Who do you think did it best?

Cover Comparison: Korn/Slipknot or Cancer Bats (Beastie Boys)- Sabotage

I love finding multiple versions of covers and trying to figure out what one is better. I’ve always had an admiration for the Beastie Boys and “Sabotage” is one of my favorite songs of theirs. So when I came across these versions by Cancer Bats and Korn/Slipknot I had to share with you all and see what one you thought was best.
