New Release: Converge (Blood Moon)- Coil

As they prepare for the release of their collaborative new album— featuring Chelsea Wolfe, Ben Chisholm and Stephen Brodsky, Converge have unveiled the second single from Bloodmoon: I, “Coil.” Speaking on the song, Jacob Bannon comments, “’Coil’ turned out to be one of my favorite songs I’ve ever been a part of. There is an infectious slow build that ends up becoming theatrical in tone. Lyrically it was a true collaboration, with all of us expanding on each other’s ideas as they came to be. I believe Chelsea’s vocal was the starting point in that for this one. Kurt really pushed vocal harmonies to a new level as well. Encouraging many of Steve’s ideas while we were in the studio tracking together. This one really has everyone of us firing on all cylinders creatively.” When you hear this song, you’ll get it. It’s such a tremendous track. I personally can’t wait for this album. Ever since they performed at Roadburn I’ve been waiting for this to finally come to fruition. Great Music Videos: Ministry- Just One Fix

Back in 1992, Ministry released their highly influential and successful album Psalm 69: The Way To Succeed and The Way To Suck Eggs. The album produced three singles that have become classics, “N.W.O.,” “Jesus Built My Hotrod,” and “Just One Fix.” Videos were made for each of those songs with the latter “Just One Fix,” being one of the most intriguing of the three. The video was directed by Peter Christopherson of the band Coil and it features author William S. Burroughs. A few interesting samples can be heard in the song. There is an audio clip of Burroughs saying “Bring it all down” along with a clip from the film Sid and Nancy, in which Chloe Webb (who played Nancy) says “Never Trust A Junkie.” One of the other samples “Gimme the thorazine. You don’t need the thorazine” is a slowed down excerpt from the movie The Trip which starred Peter Fonda and Bruce Dern. The video itself is disturbing yet extremely realistic which makes the song come to life even more. Something else that you might find cool is that the single artwork for “Just One Fix” was created by William S. Burroughs as well.

Songs In Film: Nine Inch Nails Closer in Seven

One of my all time favorite movies is Seven. It’s a damn near perfect film. The performances are great, the story, the realism and of course the soundtrack. I’ll never forget seeing it for the first time and thinking to myself that “THIS” is one hell of a film and I can’t wait to watch it again and again. David Fincher really proved himself as a filmmaker with Seven and his career since than is damn near flawless. The opening credits sequence for the film features Nine Inch Nails’ classic “Closer.” Though it’s technically a remix done by the the experimental group Coil. Either way what a great choice of song to start off the film.
