Instrumental Songs: Chimaira- Implements Of Destruction

If you haven’t heard Chimaira’s album The Impossibility Of Reason, you are missing out on one hell of a heavy metal gem. This album is one of the best heavy albums since the turn of the century. The whole thing is packed with killer riffs, grooves, rhythms and some brutal vocals and lyrics. One of my favorite parts of the album is the closing track, “Implements Of Destruction.” This 13 minute long epic is astounding. It’s one hell of a way to end the album. This song is an absolute masterpiece or instrumental tracks. Do yourself a favor and let this one sink in!!!

Memorable TV Performances: Chimaira on Farmclub

For a short time in late 1998 to early 2000 on the USA network, Farmclub was all the buzz. The show’s content featured “it” musical artists of the moment and promoted unsigned bands through national exposure and website interaction. It was hosted by music industry vet Matt Pinfield and model/actress Ali Landry. During the time it was on air, the show was responsible for a bunch of artists signing to major labels. One of the most legendary of these signings was when Chimaira performed on the show. On this night, they performed the song “Dead Inside” and it was one of those magical moments of TV performances that has gone on to live in infamy. Not long after this, Chimaira and Roadrunner Records would go on to work together. Between Farmclub and Reverb on HBO, we are definitely missing shows like that!

Collaborations: Chimaira with Stephen Carpenter- Rizzo

Back in 2001 on Chimaira’s debut album, Pass Out Of Existence, there is a track on there called “Rizzo” that was co-written by the band and Stephen Carpenter of this little band called Deftones. The band found out Stephen was a fan of the band after he had heard their song “Dead Inside,” and they wound up sending Stephen a shirt and he would then wear while on tour in support of White Pony. If you watch the video for “Digital Bath,” you can see the shirt they sent him. Stephen’s writing and playing style meshes really well with this era of Chimaira. “Rizzo” is a great example of how putting the tone and style of another guitarist can really work out well.

Classic Soundtracks: Freddy vs Jason

 

2003 saw the release of an anticipated movie that sort of (well not sort of) fell flat on its face. That movie was Freddy vs Jason. There was so much potential as to what that movie could have been but instead we got what we got. One thing that actually was cool about the movie was the soundtrack. Over the 20 songs featured on the soundtrack, you got to hear the end of the “nu-metal” era and the beginning of the “metalcore” era. You had bands like Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, Chimaira, Sevendust, Lamb Of God, Spineshank, Ill Nino, DevilDriver, Stone Sour and even Type O Negative, to name a few. Something else about this soundtrack that is worth noting is that 14 of the 20 songs on this soundtrack were previously unreleased songs by that bands.

Worst Cover Songs: Chimaira (The Cure)- Fascination Street

The Cure is one of my all time favorite bands and “Fascination Street” is my favorite song by them as well. I was searching for a cover to share with you all and I came across this gem of a bad idea. Here is Chimaira covering The Cure’s “Fascination Street.”
