New Release: Converge (Blood Moon)- Coil

As they prepare for the release of their collaborative new album— featuring Chelsea Wolfe, Ben Chisholm and Stephen Brodsky, Converge have unveiled the second single from Bloodmoon: I, “Coil.” Speaking on the song, Jacob Bannon comments, “’Coil’ turned out to be one of my favorite songs I’ve ever been a part of. There is an infectious slow build that ends up becoming theatrical in tone. Lyrically it was a true collaboration, with all of us expanding on each other’s ideas as they came to be. I believe Chelsea’s vocal was the starting point in that for this one. Kurt really pushed vocal harmonies to a new level as well. Encouraging many of Steve’s ideas while we were in the studio tracking together. This one really has everyone of us firing on all cylinders creatively.” When you hear this song, you’ll get it. It’s such a tremendous track. I personally can’t wait for this album. Ever since they performed at Roadburn I’ve been waiting for this to finally come to fruition. Bloodmoon: I, out November 19th on CD/Digital and on Vinyl June 24th.

Chelsea Wolfe Goes Off-Road For New Album 'Birth Of Violence'

Over the last couple years, Chelsea Wolfe has become one of my favorite vocalists. Her voice is so delicate yet hauntingly beautiful. Not to mention her songs and albums are tremendous. I also remember her from way back when she was the singer of Red Host! Now though, Chelsea has truly carved out her own niche and a force to be reckoned with. Knowing that, check out these songs she has guested on over the years.

Anticipated Albums: Converge & Chelsea Wolfe- Bloodmoon I

Back in 2016 at Roadburn festival, Converge teamed up with Cave In/Mutoid Man’s Steven Brodsky along with Chelsea Wolfe and Ben Chisholm for a series of collaborative shows called Blood Moon. Ever since then, this collaborative effort has been beyond anticipated. Now, the wait is over, as Bloodmoon I will be released November 19th via Epitaph Records. The 11 song album is sure to be epic and chock full of all sorts of surprises. The first song released, “Blood Moon” is an astounding 8 minutes of pure bliss. I really don’t want to ruin it for you by describing anything else about it. Just know, this is FUCKING AWESOME!!!

New Release: Chelsea Wolfe- Diana

Stream Chelsea Wolfe's New Wonder Woman-Themed Song “Diana”

A couple weeks ago I wrote about the upcoming DC Comics Dark Nights Death Metal soundtrack. The soundtrack features new songs from Mastodon, Greg Puciato, HEALTH with Chino Moreno, Idles and many more. Today though, the song with Chelsea Wolfe was released and it’s drenched in haunting beauty. The song was written by Chelsea Wolfe, Tyler Bates and Ben Chisholm. Jess Gowrie provided the drums and absolutely crushed the performance. I do hope this song makes it into Chelsea’s set for future shows. I can picture this one being pretty damn amazing live.

Cover Song: 2 Minutes To Late Night (Bjork)- Hyperballad

Björk's "Hyperballad" Gets Metal Cover From Members Of Deftones, Killswitch Engage, Cave In, More: Watch

The great Two Minutes To Late Night is back with a new cover from their quarantine series. This one is really, really, really, damn good. Here you have a Bjork song “Hyperballad” covered by Stephen Brodsky (Cave In/Old Man Gloom/Mutoid Man) on vocals with Sergio Vega (Quicksand/Deftones) on bass, Adam D (Killswitch Engage/Times Of Grace) on guitar, Jordan “Gwarsenio Hall” Olds (host of 2MTLN) on guitar, Ben Chisholm (Chelsea Wolfe) on keys and Tanner Wayne (In Flames) on drums. It’s a great cover and Stephen Brodsky is absolutely amazing on this track. He’s really found a whole other voice which I hope carries over to all of his musical ventures.

Anticipated Albums: Genghis Tron- Dream Weapon

It’s been over a decade since Genghis Tron has released a new album. Thankfully, on March 26th, the wait it over as the bands long awaited new album, Dream Weapon will be released (via Relapse Records). Dream Weapon sees Genghis Tron’s Hamilton Jordan and Michael Sochynsky now joined by two new collaborators: vocalist Tony Wolski and Sumac/Baptists drummer Nick Yacyshyn. This new lineup helps to compliment the mix of extreme rock and electronic music that Genghis Tron have pioneered during their career. The new album was recorded and produced alongside long-time collaborator Kurt Ballou at God City Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, with additional production and engineering by Ben Chisholm (Chelsea Wolfe), JJ Heath (Rain City Recorders), and Zach Weeks (God City Studio) and was mastered by Heba Kadry. Now, two weeks out from the release of Dream Weapon, Genghis Tron have dropped another song from the album. “Pyrocene” is one hell of a great song and was also the first song the group completed for the record. The accompanying video for “Pyrocene” is hypnotic and full of lush psychedelic imagery. In addition to “Pyrocene,” two other songs have been released, the title track “Dream Weapon” and ” Ritual Circle. You can pre-order the album HERE.

New Release: Chelsea Wolfe & Emma Ruth Rundle- Anhedonia

So, 2021 is musically starting off in a very awesome way. Today, Chelsea Wolfe released a new song entitled “Anhedonia” with a very awesome guest on it, Emma Ruth Rundle. This song is soaking with all the right amount of moodiness you enjoy from both singers and their music. Having both Chelsea and Emma on a track together is a dream collaboration. When you hear their voices together, it’s totally meant to be. Now, we just need touring to happen again so they can go on the road together and perform this song!

Great Music Videos: Chelsea Wolfe- 16 Psyche

Chelsea Wolfe's '16 Psyche' Roars Like An Asteroid : NPR

Over the past few years, I’ve really come to enjoy Chelsea Wolfe more and more. I remember seeing her open for Russian Circles way back and at the time, I wasn’t too into it. Perhaps it was because of the band before her and their energy on stage was so electric that by the time it was her set, the drop in energy just dropped. That’s not to say she and her band weren’t awesome. Anyways, a couple years back, Chelsea released the album Hiss Spun, and it all finally made sense to me. One of the songs that instantly caught my attention was “16 Psyche.” This track and video are stunningly superb. This track and album are also the perfect introduction to getting into the greatness that is Chelsea Wolfe.

New Release: Chelsea Wolfe, Ben Chisholm & Jesse Draxler- Valerian

Visual artist Jesse Draxler has put together a pretty damn awesome array of different artists to create an audio/video project that is sure to make your head spin (not in the Linda Blair Exorcist way). The forthcoming album Reigning Cement, is based upon using solely environmental sound recordings to create some very interesting and introspective songs. This new one in particular “Valerian,” which features Chelsea Wolfe and Ben Chisholm, is super eerie and haunting. It feels more like a piece you’d find in a score to a film (maybe even a David Lynch or David Fincher film). Without a doubt though, this project is definitely one of the more innovative things I’ve heard in a long while. A few other tracks have been released as well featuring the band Vowws (another favorite of mine), and Full Of Hell. Definitely keep an eye and ear out for this when it’s fully released on September 4th via Federal Prisoner Records.

Anticipated Albums: Wear Your Wounds- Rust On The Gates Of Heaven

I love side projects. Especially when they deviate from the style of music you’ve associated someone with for so long. Wear Your Wounds is one of my favorite side projects I’ve ever heard. Wear Your Wounds was created by Converge founder Jacob Bannon. Initially conceived as a solo project, it evolved into a five-piece band that often works with collaborating musicians. In 2017, the debut self titled double album was released followed closely by the even more experimental Dunedevil, which was also an accompaniment to Bannon’s abstract art book of the same name. Now, Wear Your Wounds, prepare to release their new album Rust on the Gates of Heaven (out July 12 via Deathwish Inc.).  The release marks the first time the official lineup of the band; Jacob Bannon (Converge), Mike McKenzie (The Red Chord, Stomach Earth, Unraveller, etc), Adam McGrath (Cave In, Nomad Stones, etc), Sean Martin (Twitching Tongues, ex-Hatebreed, ex-Kid Cudi), and Chris Maggio (ex-Trap Them, ex-Sleigh Bells, etc) have properly written and recorded together. It also features musicians Ben Chisholm (Chelsea Wolfe, White Horse) and Gared O’Donnell (Planes Mistaken For Stars, Hawks and Doves) collaborating throughout. Watch and or listen to the music video for the album’s eponymous first single now. Personally I can’t wait for this album to come out. So do yourself a favor and dive in to this great band and their work.
