New Release: Ghost- Hunter’s Moon

Ghost are back with a new track, “Hunter’s Moon.” The single arrives in collaboration with the new horror film ‘Halloween Kills.‘ The song will be availble on a 7” as the A Side with John Carpenter’s “Halloween Theme” on the B Side. The track is quite fun and catchy as most Ghost songs tend to be. Interestingly too, the song and partnership with the latest installment in the ‘Halloween‘ franchise came about after a meeting between Blumhouse Productions and Ghost that took place at The Forum in Inglewood, CA back in November of 2018.

Live Review: Black Map & Centershift at The Whisky A Go Go

For the past couple weeks I’ve been eagerly anticipating seeing Black Map again live and for the live debut of Centershift and it most certainly did not disappoint! It’s really interesting to be seeing shows again after being away from them for so long. There seems to be a new life for live music and the bands. Sort of an invigorating sense of let’s go out there and kill! And this evening was just that…

Centershift is one of my favorite new bands. For a three piece band, these guys pack the volume for sure. Riding high off their debut single “9,” Centershift took the stage and immediately opened a can of whoop ass on the crowd. Singer/guitarist Jasan Radford (who you might know from Onesidezero/Abloom), was right at home on stage and that voice of his, resonated so well through their set. You could tell people were getting more and more into it with each note played and lyric sung. Bassist Ted Wenri and drummer Mike Tarabotto are a dominant force of a rhythm section. The prowess they played with really helped to leave a real impression with the audience as well as how tight they are. The other songs they played and debuted all kicked some major ass. Be on the look out for their songs “My Own World,” “Tell Me,” and “11.” Those songs were absolute BANGERS! Centershift has this really cool sound that fits perfectly well with Black Map. Their sound has a bit of a Quicksand/Thrice vibe mixed with a little bit of other 90’s tinges. Centershift is a band that should be on your radars as they will be a name you won’t want to miss.

Black Map is one hell of a band. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing them since they came on the scene and I have to say, like a fine scotch or wine, they’ve only gotten better. As a three piece, it’s astounding how huge they sound. The combination of singer/bassist Ben Flanagan, guitarist Mark Engles and drummer Chris Robyn is an absolute force. Their set this evening was stunning. Picking songs from all their albums including their upcoming one, Melodoria (out Nov 5), Black Map tore up the stage. Songs like “I’m Just The Driver,” “Run Rabbit Run” “Let Me Out,” “No Color” all were stellar and the new songs “Chasms,” “Super Deluxe,” and “Madness (my personal favorite from the new album at the moment)” were impeccable and shows even more growth in their songwriting.

This was a terrific show. Seeing both bands at The Whisky was even better. The history of the venue makes shows like this one special. I have to say too, The Whisky sound was awesome this night. The bands sounded great and the vibe inside was just perfect. Black Map and Centershift is a match made in musical heaven. I’m going to be selfish here but, I really want a full tour with both bands. Hearing them back to back was absolute bliss. What a great night full of great bands, music, people and good times. This is what the music scene should be like. Do yourself a favor and go listen to and see to Centershift and Black Map when they come through your town. You’ll for sure thank me later!!!

Anticipated Albums: Converge & Chelsea Wolfe- Bloodmoon I

Back in 2016 at Roadburn festival, Converge teamed up with Cave In/Mutoid Man’s Steven Brodsky along with Chelsea Wolfe and Ben Chisholm for a series of collaborative shows called Blood Moon. Ever since then, this collaborative effort has been beyond anticipated. Now, the wait is over, as Bloodmoon I will be released November 19th via Epitaph Records. The 11 song album is sure to be epic and chock full of all sorts of surprises. The first song released, “Blood Moon” is an astounding 8 minutes of pure bliss. I really don’t want to ruin it for you by describing anything else about it. Just know, this is FUCKING AWESOME!!!

Track One: Glassjaw- Tip Your Bartender

This morning I woke up feeling really groggy and needed a pick me up. While I was checking the music news, I came across an article about Glassjaw’s performance at Furnace Fest and them playing their album Worship and Tribute in full. The moment I saw that, “Tip Your Bartender” started playing in my head. So, with that in mind let’s put some focus on how terrific “Tip Your Bartender” is as the first song on the album. Not only does it truly kickstart a great album but, it sure does get you pumped. The opening riff is such a force. The sound of this song is the epitome of what the 2000’s post-hardcore genre IS. The many times I’ve seen Glassjaw live, this song is always epic. There is a real power to this track and rightfully so. Interestingly too, all the drums on Worship and Tribute were performed by Shannon Larkin, who you might know from his work in Godsmack, Amen, Snot, Ugly Kid Joe and Wrathchild America. When you play this song, be sure to make sure it’s loud so EVERYONE can hear it!

Band Of The Week: Actors

Canada, over the last few years have been pretty consistent on exporting good bands. One of those bands that I’ve really come to enjoy is Actors. This Post-Punk/New Wave esque band have really taken the genre by storm. Their new album, Acts Of Worship (Out Oct 1), is drenched in hard driving beats, huge hooks, and soothing atmosphere. Their modern approach to the classic sounds, are reaching new heights. The pop sensibilities that come via their influences really shine on the album. When you listen to the new album as well as their previous, 2018’s It Will Come To You, you can really hear the evolution of the bands sound and writing abilities. Actors is a band that will be at the forefront of the Post-Punk genre in no time!

Playlist: The Audioecelectica Playlist #1

I’ve been contemplating on what to do with certain things as of late in regards to Audioeclectica. I have a giant list of things I want to do and bunch of new topics on the way. The radio show will be making a return soon. I finally found the right person to do the show with. It’s going to be awesome and the playlist for the show is superb. New Release: Filth Is Eternal- The Ritual

The mighty Filth Is Eternal have released, “The Ritual,” another blistering new song from their upcoming album, Love Is A Lie, Filth Is Eternal (out NOW). Speaking on the song, guitarist Brian McClelland said “‘The Ritual’ is a stomping cut about canonizing our own destruction. Sometimes we do it ourselves, and sometimes others help us out. After watching tech companies flatten our Seattle neighborhoods, pushing people out for years, how can you not take it personally? The Ritual pits the internal and external forces against each other and ponders a final result, to find water flowing underground.” And with that in mind, the ferociousness is absolutely delivered on this track! Personally, I can’t wait for Filth Is Eternal to announce a full tour. This band is one of those that you should be paying attention to!!

B-Sides: Chelsea Wolfe- Green Altar

Over the past few years, one artist I’ve really come to enjoy is Chelsea Wolfe. When you listen to her music, words and voice, you instantly get swept away by the etherial vibe and beautifully haunting melodies. The last album she put out, Birth Of Violence, was one hell of a record. The stripped down nature of the songs along with the eerie sensibilities, permeate as you are drawn in more and more. During the sessions for Birth Of Violence, there were a couple other songs recorded for the album but, didn’t make the final cut. One of those songs “Green Altar” is an absolute stunner. Speaking on the song Chelsea said “‘Green Altar’ is a cherished song that unfortunately didn’t make it onto the album. It’s a love song I wrote after finding out that my dear friends (artist) Bill Crisafi and (designer) Hogan McLaughlin were engaged. I envisioned them getting married in a lush, green outdoor space outside of some majestic castle ruins.” Now that you have that vision in your mind, as you listen to the song, you can sense that in there. What a tremendous song this is. I personally would love to hear this become part of the set list rotation.

Anticipated Albums: Emma Ruth Rundle- Engine Of Hell

Emma Ruth Rundle is an absolute revelation. For quite some time now, I’ve been absolutely enthralled with her and the music. Her album, On Dark Horses is a true masterpiece without a doubt. So much so, even my daughter loves that album and knows the majority of the lyrics. And now, a new album is upon us. On November 5, 2021 (via Sargent House), Emma Ruth Rundle unleashes, Engine Of Hell. The first single “Return” is deeply haunting and reflective. The beauty of the song and how it’s so vulnerable really strikes a chord. Engine Of Hell is a new chapter for Emma and it truly shows.

Those 90’s Songs: Sponge- Plowed

I’ll never forget the first time I heard the song “Plowed” by Sponge. I was a kid maybe 10 or 11 and I was watching Empire Records and towards the end of the movie, when they are getting ready for “the get together” to save the store, this song was played. I loved it instantly. What a great use of the song in that scene. Interestingly, the song isn’t included on the soundtrack. That’s something that’s always bugged me. Plowed is also such a quintessential 90’s song that, it has to be included in this topic. The album that “Plowed” is on, Rotting Pinata is a terrific album from start to finish. If you’ve never heard it, you should!
